The current generation of Honda pickup has been around since 2016 and despite its age, it is still a highly competitive machine. That’s why the latest reports suggest that the current generation is going to remain in production for several more years. However, it looks like the Japanese manufacturer is preparing another update. This time, it won’t be about aesthetics but rather about the powertrain. We expect to see the 2024 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid, which will be the first pickup from Honda with an electrified powertrain.
The new powertrain should bring significant improvements in terms of efficiency, but also in terms of performance. On the other hand, the rest of the design should remain largely the same. This pickup will continue to deliver superior driving characteristics, along with a spacious cabin, good interior quality and a decent list of standard equipment. Considering the possible powertrain update, we presume it could arrive a little bit earlier than usual, though still within the second half of the year.
2024 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid Powertrain
Of course, the most interesting aspect of this model would be its powertrain. At this point, the officials are still quiet but some sources suggest that the Japanese manufacturer is working on a new hybrid system, which would be primarily designed for the next-generation Pilot. The same unit would find its place under the hood of the 2024 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid and it looks like the new system will be based on a turbo-four engine.
Most likely, that will be Honda’s well-known 2.0-liter turbo-four, which would get help from a couple of electric motors. The total output is expected to go over 300, which would be more than enough for respectable performances. Also, some sources suggest that the new system would come paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
On the other hand, base models should continue with the same V6 engine under the hood. We are talking about the good-old 3.5-liter unit, which puts out around 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. This super-smooth engine comes coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission and besides good performance, it also offers a super-smooth ride.
2024 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid Design
Design-wise, we don’t believe that this model could be any different than the gasoline version. Therefore, we would see the same overall layout, based on a unibody platform. Such a design approach ensures superior ride quality, whether it’s about handling or comfort. The Ridgeline is easy and super comfy to drive, so we expect nothing less from the hybrid.
The same thing is with the styling, which was updated recently. There is a new, bolder and more aggressive look, with the new front-end design that included a bolder grille, revised headlights, a new bumper etc.
Once again, we don’t expect many things to change. The cabin should carry on with a familiar layout, which offers a car-like surroundings. The dashboard utilizes high-quality materials and attractive aesthetics, pretty much the same as in the Pilot, so you can imagine how superior this cabin looks when compared to most BoF pickups.
Besides the great quality, this pickup offers one of the most spacious cabins in the class. The only available version is the one with a crew cab layout, which offers two very spacious rows of seats, which accommodate adults with ease. The cargo bed is 5.3 feet long, which is far from bad but also far from class leaders.
The 2024 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid might come with some additions to the list of standard equipment but we are pretty sure that things won’t be much different compared to the gasoline model. Therefore, base models should come with things like an 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, two USB ports, a seven-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, proximity keyless entry, tri-zone automatic climate control, a universal garage door opener, and remote start. Among available upgrades, expect to find goodies like satellite radio, two rear USB ports, HD Radio, satellite-linked navigation, voice recognition, an eight-speaker premium stereo, wireless device charging, in-bed speakers, a moonroof, a power-sliding rear window, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, ambient interior lighting, and an in-bed power outlet.
When it comes to safety features, the list of standard equipment will include forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, road departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and a rearview camera. Things like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams and parking sensors will be available.
2024 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid Release Date and Price
We presume that the 2024 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid would arrive sometime in the last quarter of the next year. The starting price would probably go somewhere between 40.000 and 45.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Ford Ranger, Jeep Gladiator, Nissan Frontier etc.
