2023 Toyota Tacoma Redesign: Everything We Know So Far

The current-generation Tacoma might still be the best-selling mid-size pickup truck but it definitely needs an update. Simply, it feels outdated in many ways and that’s why the Japanese manufacturer already started the development of the new model. According to the latest reports, the new model will arrive by the end of next year, as the 2023 Toyota Tacoma. We count on all kinds of novelties and even though the officials are still quiet, some of them are quite easy to predict.

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma will be all-new and we know for sure it will get a new platform. Furthermore, it will get updates in nearly every aspect, including a new, more refined suspension setup. We also count on new engine options, as well as on a new transmission. Naturally, new aesthetics are a certain thing, while we also expect to see a lot of improvements on the inside.

2023 Toyota Tacoma Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, this redesign is about to bring a lot of big novelties and the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. As you may presume, the new 2023 Toyota Tacoma will ride on the company’s new TNGA-F platform, a body-on-frame version of the company’s newest architecture. It already debuted in the new Tundra and Land Cruiser and brought significant improvements regarding rigidity, weight reduction and efficiency. What’s important to mention is that the new model will feature a fully-boxed frame, which will have a high impact on the model’s overall capability.

The new Tacoma will also get a new suspension setup. The rear end will come with coil springs, which will replace the current leaf-spring setup. Of course, the TRD Pro is expected to come with an upgraded suspension, as well as with a full load of other off-road hardware.

Exterior

When it comes to the exterior design, we have no doubt that the 2023 Toyota Tacoma will bring a completely new styling. The test mule has already been spotted. However, it still wears a heavy cover, so it’s hard to tell anything about the new look. Still, we may presume that a lot of inspiration will be taken from the new Tundra, especially at the front, which should come with a grille and headlights designed in a similar fashion.

We may also see some changes regarding the size. The new model could get a few more inches in wheelbase and feature bigger overall dimensions, in order to provide more space for the passengers.

The off-road-focused 2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro will continue with exclusive features. We already mentioned suspension upgrades, while we also count on standard four-wheel drive, two-speed transfer case, locking differentials, skid plates, tow hooks, off-road tires and other off-road upgrades.

Interior

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma redesign will certainly bring a lot of novelties, though the exact design is still a mystery. Still, we have no doubt that the new model will bring a new, more modern layout. We count on nicer materials and more attractive aesthetics, as well as on lots of new tech features.

We also expect to see improvements regarding passenger space. The current model isn’t particularly generous, no matter the cab style, and this particularly refers to headroom, which makes Tacoma not so friendly to taller passengers. The 2023 Toyota Tacoma interior will continue in two familiar configurations, either with an extended or double cab layout. The first one comes with a 6.1-foot bed, while the latter comes either with a 5- or 6.1-foot bed.

2023 Toyota Tacoma Engines

Big changes will come under the hood as well. The current model comes with two engines on offer and both of them feel underpowered. Therefore, both of them will be replaced. The offer will probably start with Toyota’s new 2.4-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. For comparison, that’s a similar amount of power as in the current V6, but significantly more torque, which should have a big impact on the overall driving dynamics.

Also, we believe that the 2023 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid could come as well. At this point, we don’t know the details, but we believe the new truck would probably use a hybrid system based on a turbo-four engine.

We also count on a new transmission. The current 6-speed unit isn’t particularly impressive and we are pretty sure it will be replaced with an 8-speed automatic that usually comes with the new turbo-four. On the other hand, the hybrid could easily come with a 10-speed unit from Tundra. Also, we expect that Toyota will continue to offer a 6-speed manual in certain versions.

2023 Toyota Tacoma Release Date and Price

When it comes to the 2023 Toyota Tacoma release date, we expect that the new model will hit the market by the end of 2022. The starting price would probably go around 28.000 dollars. Of course, the competition remains the same, in the form of models like Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger, Jeep Gladiator etc.
