After the recent introduction of the redesigned Tundra, which receives great reviews, we are eagerly waiting to see other siblings to receive a full redesign. Of course, Sequoia is one of them. The full-size SUV hasn’t been redesigned since 2007 and desperately needs updates. From what we know so far, the 2022 model will carry on in the same way, while the 2023 Toyota Sequoia will be the one to receive a complete overhaul.
At this point, we still don’t know the details. However, we have no doubt that the new model will have a lot of things in common with the new Tundra, whether it’s about mechanics, aesthetics or interior design. Of course, this means new engine options as well, as the current 5.7-liter V8 will soon become history.
The officials are still quiet about the launch date but believe that the new 2023 Toyota Sequoia release date will be scheduled for the second half of 2022.
2023 Toyota Sequoia Redesign
The full-size SUV will receive a complete redesign after 15 years, so it’s not hard to conclude that the changes will be significant. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. Just like the new Tundra, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia will also switch to the new TNGA-F platform, which will bring improvements in various aspects.
One of the first things that come to mind is weight reduction. The new Sequoia is expected to be hundreds of pounds lighter. Furthermore, the new platform will provide a lower center of gravity, as well as a new, more refined suspension setup, which will all have a positive impact on the model’s driving characteristics.
Finally, this platform will allow the implementation of new design and technical solutions. This includes hybrid powertrain options as well, but we will get on that in a minute.
Exterior
Of course, the new exterior design will be one of the most important things about this overhaul. At this point, it’s early to talk about details but presume that the new 2023 Toyota Sequoia will keep similar proportions as its predecessor. For reference, the current model measures 122 inches in wheelbase, as well as over 205 inches in total length.
Naturally, the overall shape will remain the same, in a typical SUV manner. On the other hand, we have no doubt that the Japanese manufacturer will implement the latest design language, especially at the front. This part of the car should look the same or very similar to Tundra. We count on the same grille design, while headlights shouldn’t look much different either.
We also expect to see the TRD Pro version of the SUV, which would come with all kinds of off-road upgrades, as well as loads of styling details that accentuate its performance character.
Interior
The interior design is probably the weakest point of the outgoing generation. The overall quality is poor, while the dashboard and tech features are way outdated. So, we have big expectations from the new model and from what we know so far, the dashboard will feature pretty much the same shape as the new pickup sibling. This means utilization of much nicer materials, along with a full load of tech features. This refers to things like the digital instrument cluster, as well as a new infotainment system. Base models should come with an 8-inch infotainment screen, while higher trim levels should offer a massive 14.0-inch unit.
On the other hand, the current generation is extremely generous with passenger space and accommodates adults in all three rows of seats. The same thing goes for the cargo area. So, we believe that the new 2023 Toyota Sequoia won’t change significantly in this aspect.
2023 Toyota Sequoia Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, the current V8 will be dropped from the offer. Instead, the new model will come with the company’s new 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6, which puts out 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Another big novelty will be a 10-speed automatic transmission.
We expect to see a hybrid version of the new SUV as well. Once again, the system will be the same one that was presented in the new pickup recently. It is based on a V6 engine and delivers a total output of 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque. Interestingly, this one also comes in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
2023 Toyota Sequoia Release Date and Price
While it’s still early to talk about more precise date, we are pretty sure that the 2023 Toyota Sequoia will hit the market sometime in the second half of the year. When it comes to the price, we expect that base versions will go between 50.000 and 55.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Ford Expedition, Chevy Tahoe and Nissan Armada.
