2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD Refresh: What to Expect?

The current generation of GMC’s HD pickup has been around for a while and despite the pretty good commercial success, it’s time for updates. After the recent update of the light-duty Sierra 1500, it is time for the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD to come with updates. Practically, we are seeing the same scenario as the in the sister company, Chevrolet. Therefore, we count on a comprehensive update, which will include all kinds of interesting changes.

Of course, this update will bring some interesting styling updates but could say that truck enthusiasts are rather interested in what’s happening on the inside. There, we expect to see a completely new cabin design, as well as a full load of new features. Finally, big changes are expected under the hood as well. We are eagerly waiting to see the upgraded version of the Duramax turbodiesel engine, which would bring a significant increase in power and, particularly, torque.

The 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD is expected to hit the market sometime in the second half of the year.

2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD Design

As we’ve just mentioned, this update will include all kinds of novelties, starting from the new styling. At this point, the details are still unavailable but we presume that the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD will go in the same direction as the 1500 model. So, we count on a few tweaks at the front, in terms of a more prominent grille design, slightly revised headlights and a new front bumper. The rear end will come with a few tweaks too, though not so significant. Also, there’s a chance to see new color options, or maybe even an appearance package.

On the other hand, we don’t expect to see more important changes regarding chassis and suspension design. Other than the powertrain, the mechanical aspect of the new truck should remain pretty much the same.

Interior

This is where things should become pretty big. We expect to see a completely new dashboard design, which should look pretty much the same as in the new Sierra 1500. This includes things like a way more attractive aesthetics, nicer materials and better build quality. Of course, the most interesting part of the new cabin will be the new center stack, with a massive touchscreen, new climate controls and similar things. Furthermore, a big change will happen in the way that the gear shifter will finally be moved from the steering column to the center console.

On the other hand, we don’t expect to see changes in terms of the overall cabin layout. We expect to see familiar cab configurations on the offer – regular cab, double cab and crew cab styles. These cabs can be paired with two bed sizes – 6.8-foot or 8.1-foot boxes.

Features

Of course, we count on a lot of new features to come with this update. We already mentioned the new infotainment screen, which will probably feature 13.4 inches diagonally. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is another tech novelty we expect to see.

Still, we don’t believe that the base trim level organization could change. The Pro trim will remain the base version, with essential features only. Models like SLE and SLT will continue with add more standard equipment gradually, while the AT4 will remain an off-road version of the truck, with upgrades like off-road suspension, hill descent control, skid plates etc.

Finally, there is the range-topping Denali trim, with additional standard and available features, as well as with lots of exclusive styling details, such as unique grille design, wheels, chrome trim etc.

2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD Engines

Big novelties are expected under the hood as well. According to the latest reports, the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD will get a significantly upgraded version of the well-known 6.6-liter Duramax V8 engine. Instead of 450 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque, the new version of the engine will feature a max output of 500 horsepower and 1.085 pound-feet of torque.

On the other hand, the gasoline version will continue with the same 6.6-liter V8, which puts out around 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque.

2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD will hit the market sometime in the second half of the year, with a starting price of around 40.000 dollars. Of course, Ford F-250 and Ram 2500HD will remain key competitors.
