The new generation of Ford’s Super Duty series is on the way. Those are the latest reports we are getting about the pickup that was last time redesigned in 2017. Considering the company’s typical production cycles, it looks like the new model is on the schedule. We expect it will arrive as the 2023 Ford Super Duty and we count on all kinds of novelties. The next-generation model should hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.
Just like the last redesign of the light-duty F-150, this overhaul should also bring mostly evolutionary changes. After the pretty radical previous redesign, this one should be way more subtle, with more focus on aesthetics and smaller mechanical modifications. However, this doesn’t mean that we won’t be seeing interesting novelties. The company is preparing a lot of new things, which could even include a new powertrain option.
2023 Ford Super Duty Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, changes for this redesign should be rather evolutionary. Unlike the previous redesign, which has brought significant changes in terms of a new aluminum body and chassis, this one won’t bring by such radical changes. Instead, we expect to see an evolution of the current design, which means that most of the changes should be in terms of aesthetics. However, we also count on certain mechanical upgrades, which would make these pickups even more capable in terms of towing and hauling.
When it comes to aesthetics, we presume that the 2023 Ford Super Duty models will go in the same direction as the new F-150. In other words, we count on a similar overall shape, but on a bolder and more aggressive front-end design. Just like the previous generation, the new model should also come offered in various cab styles and bed sizes.
Big changes are expected on the inside and, once again, the F-150 should serve as a reference. The dashboard should be designed in the same fashion, which means that we may expect improvements in various aspects, including the overall interior quality. The new cabin should utilize new materials and more attention to detail, while the dashboard should bring a massive infotainment screen as well. Several more new tech features are about to come, including semi-autonomous driving.
When it comes to the passenger space, the new generation should feature similar proportions to the current model, so we count on a similar amount of interior space as well.
2023 Ford Super Duty Engines
Although the officials are still quiet, we are pretty sure that the new generation will continue with three familiar engine options on the offer. Therefore, base models should carry on with a 6.2-liter V8 gasoline engine, which currently puts out around 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Also, there is the recently introduced 7.3-liter V8, which is good for about 430 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. The Super Duty models are also available with the monstrous 6.7-liter V8 turbo-diesel, which features a max output of 475 horsepower and 1.050 pound-feet of torque.
The base V8 comes in pair with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the other two come with a more modern 10-speed unit. Note that these are the current power and torque ratings and that the new generation might come with some increase in this aspect.
What About Hybrid?
Some sources also speculate about the hybrid version. At this point, the officials are still quiet but many believe that the 2023 Ford Super Duty could also come with a hybrid powertrain, at least the 3/4-ton F-250 model. Rumors suggest the same setup that powers the light-duty F-150, which combines a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 with a single electric motor. The total output goes around 430 horsepower and 570 pound-feet of torque.
However, there are a few reasons why the chances to see this powertrain on the offer aren’t big. We already mentioned that the officials are quiet, while another thing that comes to mind is the transmission, which would be different in this case and which would require additional modifications. This would cause additional costs and make this pickup more expensive, so we aren’t sure if Ford management could find this version payable.
2023 Ford Super Duty Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 Ford Super Duty will arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year. The current model starts at around 38.500 dollars and we don’t expect a bigger price increase in the near future. Of course, Chevy Silverado HD and Ram HD models will remain key competitors.
