After the recent mid-cycle refresh that was introduced with the 2022 model, we are pretty sure that the current generation has a couple more good years before it receives a complete redesign. That’s why we expect to see no bigger updates for the 2023 Ford Expedition. This should be a typical carryover model, with familiar design characteristics and features. Of course, minor updates are always possible, especially in terms of new standard features, new color options and similar things.
All in all, you may count on an SUV that has so many great things to offer. We like its spacious and well-designed cabin, as well as a long list of standard and available features. There is also a new infotainment screen, with massive screens, super easy to use. Furthermore, we like the capable V6 engine, as well as pretty balanced handling.
Considering that no bigger changes should come for the next year, we presume that the 2023 Ford Expedition will arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2023 Ford Expedition Design
Design-wise, this should be a typical carryover model. Simply, the 2022 update has brought a lot of interesting novelties, starting from the new styling. The new look is particularly interesting from the front end, where you can find a new, more massive grille, along with completely new headlights. Furthermore, there is a new front bumper that, combined with previously mentioned parts, makes the front end look very rugged and attractive. All in all, the 2023 Ford Expedition should continue with the same styling, though we wouldn’t be surprised if we see things like new color options, or even a new appearance package.
The recent update has also brought a new version, called Timberline, which brings 33-inch all-terrain tires and an increased ride height, along with other off-road upgrades. For those who prefer street performance, there is the new Stealth Performance package, which comes with a sport-tuned suspension, a more powerful engine and other upgrades. These two versions should carry on in the same way as well.
Interior
The 2023 Ford Expedition interior should also continue in the same way. Simply, the recent update brought a completely new cabin design, with a new dashboard that loots more upscale, brings nicer materials and more tech features. Speaking of the tech features, there is a new infotainment system, along with bigger screens, as well as a new digital instrument cluster. All these things make the cabin look even more upscale.
On the other hand, the interior capacity remained pretty much the same and it will remain until we see a complete overhaul. So, you may count on three very spacious rows of seats, which accommodate up to eight adult passengers. The cargo area lags behind the new Tahoe but still offers respectable volume. In numbers, that would be around 21 cubic feet behind the third row, 63 cubic feet behind the second row and 105 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.
Features
This aspect shouldn’t bring more important changes either, though there’s always room for some smaller updates. We’ve already mentioned the recent update, which has brought a new infotainment system, which comes with a 12.0-inch infotainment screen in base models. In higher trim levels, you can find a bigger 15.5-inch touchscreen, as well as a completely digital instrument cluster. Things like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard, while you can get upgrades like a Wi-Fi hotspot, a 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo and a rear-seat entertainment system.
When it comes to driver-assistance features, the biggest novelty is a new BlueCruise semi-autonomous driving system, which is Ford’s answer to GM’s SuperCruise. We presume this system will remain available in the most expensive versions only.
2023 Ford Expedition Engine
The 2023 Ford Expedition will continue with the same, well-familiar 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, which comes in different output variants, depending on the version you pick. Base versions are good for about 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. The range-topping Limited trim comes with a power upgrade, where this engine puts out around 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Finally, there is the new Stealth Performance package, where this engine features a max output of 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. All versions come with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
When it comes to fuel economy, the base version of the engine returns around 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. More powerful versions aren’t much thirstier either. When properly equipped, this SUV can tow up to 9.300 pounds.
2023 Ford Expedition Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 Ford Expedition will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 52.000 dollars. Key competitors will be models like Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Toyota Sequoia etc.
