2023 Dodge Durango Redesign: Back to the BoF World!

Despite the last year’s update and despite the fact that the current model still marks pretty good sales numbers, the 2023 Dodge Durango will receive a complete redesign. As it was speculated years ago, the next generation will bring significant changes. Unlike the new Grand Cherokee, which has been Durango’s closest relative in the previous years, which has switched to the new Giorgio platform, the next-generation Durango will return to its roots. In other words, it will be a genuine, body-on-frame SUV.

At this point, the exact details are yet to come but we have no doubt that the new model will bring significant changes. What we expect to see is a completely new design, based on FCA’s familiar BoF platform. Also, the new model will probably be notably bigger and it will represent the company in the full-size segment.

At this point, we are still waiting for the official confirmation but we presume that the all-new 2023 Dodge Durango could arrive sometime in the second half of 2022.

2023 Dodge Durango Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Dodge Durango is about to receive a complete redesign and bring lots of significant changes. First of all, it will depart from the Grand Cherokee. Jeep’s biggest crossover has been redesigned last year and now rides on Alfa Romeo’s Giorgio platform. On the other hand, the new Durango will get back to its roots and once again be a genuine SUV.

In other words, it will once again ride on a body-on-frame platform. What’s easy to conclude is that the platform is already there. Naturally, we are talking about the same architecture that underpins the current-generation Ram 1500. More precisely, most of the parts would be shared with the new Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models. Of course, the new Durango would be a typical mainstream SUV, while Jeep’s new models represent FCA/Stellantis in the segment of luxury full-size SUVs.

Exterior

As we’ve just mentioned, the new 2023 Dodge Durango will compete in the mainstream segment. This means that key rivals will be models like Chevy Tahoe, Ford Expedition etc. So, we may conclude that the new model will come with comparable features, starting from the size, suspension setup (which includes independent rear setup) etc.

Visually, the overall shape would come in a typical SUV layout, with a long, wagon-like body. On the other, the front end is still a mystery, mainly because Dodge hasn’t launched a new model for a long time. This means that the new design language needs to be established and we presume that the 2023 Dodge Durango would be the model to bring the new aesthetical philosophy. Of course, we presume that some inspiration would come from the new RAM 1500 as well.

Interior

When it comes to the interior design, keep in mind that we’ve already mentioned that the new Durango won’t be as luxurious as Jeep Wagoneer. This means a less upscale interior. So, the first thing that comes to mind is RAM 1500’s dashboard design, which isn’t a bad thing at all. Of course, the overall shape is a little bit truckish but the materials and build quality are at a pretty high level. Also, we have no doubt that the new 2023 Dodge Durango would come with plenty of the latest tech features. This refers to a massive infotainment system, digital instrument cluster and numerous driver aids.

The amount of cabin space should be comparable with rivals too. So, three rows of seats would be standard and all of them would be able to accommodate adults pretty easily. The same thing goes for the cargo area.

2023 Dodge Durango Engines

This aspect shouldn’t bring any bigger surprises. Simply, we are pretty sure that the 2023 Dodge Durango will be relying on proven solutions, on familiar engine options. So, base versions would probably use a familiar 3.6-liter V6, which puts out around 305 horsepower. Most likely, this V6 would come standard with an eTorque mild-hybrid system.

Of course, the well-known 5.7-liter HEMI V8 would be the next in the line. This unit puts out around 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. Finally, we wouldn’t exclude the possibility to see a high-performance version, equipped with a 6.2-liter Supercharged Hellcat engine with over 700 horsepower.

Also, we wouldn’t exclude the possibility to see a diesel version, equipped with a 3.0-liter V6, though we rather believe that the company would come up with plug-in hybrid versions in the near future.

2023 Dodge Durango Release Date and Price

Although the officials are still quiet about the next-generation 2023 Dodge Durango, we presume that the new model could come already in the second half of 2022. The base price would probably go around 50.000 dollars, roughly.
