The third generation of Chevrolet Montana is on the way and it looks like this small pickup could easily come to North America. So far, this small ute was primarily offered in South America, in markets like Brazil. It was primarily a commercial vehicle but things could change with the next generation. The all-new model is coming as the 2023 Chevy Montana and many believe it could be offered in North America as well.
This makes perfect sense if we consider that Ford has already released the Maverick, while Hyundai debuted with the Santa Cruz last year. These two models are also small unibody pickups and they turned out to be quite popular. Simply, these models are a perfect compromise for buyers who want a pickup-level of practicality, but also want a crossover-like driving experience.
At this point, the officials are still quiet about Montana’s arrival in North America but rumors suggest this could happen already by the end of this year.
2023 Chevy Montana Design
When it comes to the base design, we know what to expect from the 2023 Chevy Montana. The new model would be a unibody pickup, based on GM’s new VSS-F platform, the same one that already underpins a couple of new crossovers, such as the revived TrailBlazer. This means that the new Montana would feature front-wheel drive, though we have no doubt that the all-wheel-drive version would be offered as well.
In terms of styling, it’s still hard to talk about details. Still, we’ve seen a couple of rendering photos, which clearly show in which direction the new pickup could go. These photos show a front face that closely resembles the Blazer. The front part of the vehicle could look the same but the rest of the pickup would come in a typical pickup layout. We expect that a crew cab layout will be the only version on the offer.
This aspect of 2023 Chevy Montana is still a mystery, but we can predict some basic things. Of course, this primarily refers to the dashboard. It should feature a relatively simple design and if we presume that the company will tend to keep this pickup affordable, we may presume that a lot of hard-touch materials will be involved. On the other hand, we count on a decent amount of standard equipment, including GM’s latest infotainment system and other tech goodies.
When it comes to seating capacity, we expect that a crew cab will be the only cab style on the offer. Therefore, the new Montana should be able to accommodate up to five passengers. When it comes to the cargo bed, we believe it would feature somewhere between 4 and 5 feet in size.
2023 Chevy Montana Engine
When it comes to the powertrain, we may presume that Chevy would tend to make this pickup efficient. Therefore, it’s no wonder that some sources suggest a 1.3-liter turbocharged engine with 164 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, which would come in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
We believe there is also room for something bigger and more capable. That could easily be GM’s 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This engine would also come coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
2023 Chevy Montana Release Date and Price
At this point, we know for sure that the version for the Brazilian market will arrive by the end of this year. When it comes to the North American version, the officials are still quiet about its arrival. If it arrives one day, we believe that the starting price would go under 20.000 dollars.
