We have been hearing rumors about El Camino’s comeback for a very long time and if we can trust the latest ones, it looks like something is finally happening. This time, it looks like Chevy is really working on the legendary muscle coupe ute, which was one of the most amazing pickups during the 60s and 70s. However, it faded away in the following decades, due to the lack of demand for such vehicles.
However, times are changing and many of today’s buyers are looking for vehicles that belong to specific niches. The new 2023 Chevy El Camino would perfectly fit this category, so it’s no wonder that rumors are louder than ever. At this point, the officials are still quiet, so make sure to take the following paragraphs with a big reserve.
2023 Chevy El Camino Design
So, the first thing that comes to mind is if the famous nameplate is about to continue to use the same body style. Of course, we are talking about the coupe ute layout, which could be slightly modified this time. Simply, it’s hard to imagine a single row of seats on today’s market, so the new 2023 Chevy El Camino would rather come with two rows of seats and a small cargo bed behind them.
Mechanically, the new model would share a lot of things with the current-generation Camaro. Of course, we are talking about the well-known Alpha platform, which would be used for this model as well. Moreover, we could see a lot of aesthetics in common, though the latest rendering photos rather show a front face heavily inspired by the new Silverado.
Interior
As we already mentioned, there is a big possibility to see two rows of seats instead of one in the 2023 Chevy El Camino. That could be the main difference between the new and previous generations of this coupe ute. When it comes to the dashboard design, Camaro’s dashboard would definitely be the easiest way for the company. Still, keep in mind that the current generation of the legendary pony has been around since 2016, so the all-new El Camino would definitely use something more modern.
2023 Chevy El Camino Powertrain
Of course, this is one of the most interesting aspects of the 2023 Chevy El Camino. As most of the parts would be shared with the Camaro, it’s easy to conclude that the engines would be shared as well. This primarily refers to the base 3.6-liter V6 engine, which puts out around 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque. We wouldn’t be surprised if we see a small turbo-four on the offer as well, with around 275 horsepower.
On the other hand, the well-known 6.2-liter V8 would sit at the top of the offer, with a max output of 455 horsepower. Finally, we shouldn’t exclude the possibility to see a high-performance El Camino, which would come with the famous LT4 engine and a max output of 650 horsepower.
2023 Chevy El Camino Release Date and Price
If we can trust rumors, the all-new 2023 Chevy El Camino could arrive already by the end of this year. If that happens, we presume that base models would cost around 30.000 dollars.
What about all-electric El Camino?
Another thing that comes to mind is an all-electric El Camino. Simply, old nameplates are a great way to advertise new electric cars. GMC already did that with Hummer, so we don’t see why Chevy wouldn’t do something similar with El Camino. If that happens, we have no doubt that the new model would be based on GM’s new Ultium platform, though we are not sure if such a design approach would allow the couple ute design to be offered. Stay tuned for more details about the possible El Camino comeback.
