2023 Chevy Colorado Redesign: What We Know So Far

The current generation of Chevy’s mid-size pickup still marks pretty good sales numbers. Moreover, it is still one of the most capable models in the class. However, it is more than a decade old and it feels outdated in many ways. Therefore, it’s time for updates. This time, we are about to see a complete redesign, which will bring tons of interesting and important novelties. The new model will arrive as the 2023 Chevy Colorado.

One of the first things is the platform, which won’t be all-new but rather heavily revised. Furthermore, we count on the new exterior and interior designs, as well as on a new powertrain lineup. Of course, we are about to see the implementation of new technologies as well, particularly in terms of safety systems, considering that the current model doesn’t stand pretty well in this aspect.

The exact release date is yet to be announced, but we expect that the 2023 Chevy Colorado will hit the market sometime in the second half of the year.

2023 Chevy Colorado Redesign

This will be a complete redesign after a full decade. The current generation has been around since 2012, so there is no doubt that the 2023 Chevy Colorado will bring a lot of novelties. So, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. From what we know so far, it won’t ride on a completely new platform. Instead, we will see a heavily updated GMT-31XX platform, which is codenamed 31XX-2. Of course, it will bring improvements in various aspects, starting from better ride quality, improved capabilities etc.

Also, we have no doubt that this heavily revised platform will open up a whole new spectrum of possibilities regarding new technologies. This particularly refers to safety features, those radar-based systems, such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring etc.

Exterior

When it comes to the exterior design, the test mule has been spotted on the road. Even though it still wears heavy camouflage, we can see that the overall size won’t change much. Also, the overall shape should remain pretty similar. On the other hand, we count on a completely new styling. The 2023 Chevy Colorado should follow the brand’s latest design language, which means that most of the styling solutions should be borrowed from the full-size Silverado. This particularly refers to the front end, which should come with the similarly-designed grille and headlights. Naturally, the new Colorado will be full of exclusive details as well.

When it comes to cab styles and bed sizes, we expect that the 2023 Chevy Colorado will come in three configurations. Base models will probably feature Extended Cab with Long Box. On the other hand, the Crew Cab model will probably be offered with either Short or Long Box.

Interior

This is another aspect where we expect a lot of novelties. If you look at the current cabin, it looks outdated in pretty much every aspect. The build quality is subpar, the aesthetics are old, while the ergonomics are not ideal. Therefore, we know what kinds of improvements we expect from the 2023 Chevy Colorado. First of all, the interior quality should be on a much higher level if Chevy wants to remain competitive with the upcoming generations of Tacoma and Ranger.

Also, we count that the new cabin will come fully loaded with tech and other features. So, count on a large infotainment screen, along with lots of connectivity features, such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and many other things. As we already mentioned, the new generation should also come with lots of new safety systems, such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist, pedestrian detection and more.

2023 Chevy Colorado Engines

Another interesting thing about the 2023 Chevy Colorado is that it will come with a completely new powertrain lineup. While the current lineup includes three engine options, the new model will come with just one engine on the offer. That would be a 2.7-liter turbo-four, which offers a max output of 310 horsepower. While that’s the same amount of power current Colorado gets from the V6 engine, this turbo-four unit offers significantly more torque (348 pound-feet), and that should have a significant impact on driving dynamics and overall performance.

Big novelties will come in terms of transmission as well. Instead of the current 6- and 8-speed units, the new Colorado will come equipped with a newer-generation 10-speed automatic.

2023 Chevy Colorado Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2023 Chevy Colorado will arrive by the end of this year. Considering that the turbo-four will be the only engine available, we presume that the starting price will be notably higher compared to the current model, which starts at around 26.000 dollars.
