Without any doubt, SUVs and crossovers are the biggest moneymakers for most car companies, especially those models that compete in subcompact and mid-size segments. That’s why Cadillac is already working on the new version of XT5, even though the current generation isn’t all that old. It debuted in 2016, as the 2017 model but it doesn’t age particularly great, while the competition is getting stronger every year. That’s why we have big expectations from the 2023 Cadillac XT5, which is about to receive a full overhaul.
At this point, more specific details are still unknown. On the other hand, some of the base design characteristics are easy to guess. One of them is the platform, which will be an updated version of the current one. Furthermore, we don’t expect bigger surprises regarding the powertrain lineup, while the overall size shouldn’t change drastically either.
We believe that the 2023 Cadillac XT5 release date could be scheduled for the second half of 2022.
2023 Cadillac XT5 Redesign
The 2023 Cadillac XT5 redesign will certainly bring a lot of novelties. Of course, one of the first things that come to mind is the platform, which won’t be changed. Instead, we will see an updated version of the familiar C1 platform, which will bring a couple of improvements regarding the chassis setup, as well as a new suspension setup. The ride quality should improve, especially in terms of handling, as the current model isn’t particularly engaging to drive.
The same platform means the same layout. So, the new XT5 will continue as an FWD car, which may be a bit of a handicap when compared to rivals. Still, a good thing to know is that the AWD version will be on the offer too, which should significantly improve the grip and make this SUV act better on curvy roads and wet surfaces.
Exterior
This is where we expect to see big improvements. The current generation hasn’t aged well and it already looks less appealing compared to the competition, even though it’s been around for less than five years. Therefore, we expect that the company will implement the brand’s new design language, the one that’s already in use for models like XT6 and Cadillac Escalade. This means a sharper and more conventional design approach, in a combination with a lot of futuristic details.
On the other hand, the size shouldn’t change all that much. We believe that the 2023 Cadillac XT5 will feature similar dimensions as the original model, with a minor increase only. For reference, the current model measures around 112.5 inches in wheelbase. It is 189.6 inches long, 75 inches wide and 66 inches high.
Interior
This is probably the weakest point of the current generation, so we expect big improvements. Even though the current dashboard looks fine, rivals look way better. That’s why we expect a lot of new things in this aspect. First of all, we count on a completely new dashboard design, with a more attractive shape and much finer materials. Also, we count on loads of new tech goodies. Among them, we expect to find a bigger infotainment screen, as well as a digital instrument cluster. Of course, we also count on lots of advanced driver-assistance features, including the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system, which should be available as an option.
As we already mentioned, the overall size shouldn’t change much, which indicates that the amount of passenger space will also remain pretty similar. That’s not an issue at all, considering that the current model is already pretty generous in this aspect and accommodates adults with ease in both rows. The same thing goes for the cargo area, which currently offers typical ratings for the class.
2023 Cadillac XT5 Engines
When it comes to the powertrain lineup, we are pretty sure that base models are about to carry on in the same way. This would mean a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. While that’s enough to ensure pretty decent performance, we presume that the company will also offer something peppier. Currently, that is a 3.6-liter V6 but we believe GM is about to come up with something more efficient.
That will probably be GM’s new 2.7-liter turbo-four, which can already be found in the Chevy Silverado pickup truck. The engine offers similar power to the V6 (310 horses) but way more torque (348 pound-feet), which should ensure notably better driving dynamics. We believe this engine would provide higher mpg ratings as well.
2023 Cadillac XT5 Release Date and Price
We expect to see the 2023 Cadillac XT5 sometime in the second half of the next year. The current model starts at around 45.000 dollars and we don’t expect a bigger increase in the future. Key competitors will be models like Volvo XC60, Mercedes-Benz GLC etc.
