2023 Alfa Romeo Brennero: New Entry-Level SUV On the Way

The legendary Italian carmaker is still making some pretty impressive cars but somehow, it can’t make a best-seller, a model that can become super popular among the masses. Normally, the officials are perfectly aware of this situation, where they have to develop a vehicle that will bring some profit. Therefore, it’s no wonder that they are working on another SUV, which will be smaller than Tonale and which will be offered both with internal combustion and electric powertrains. The new model will come as the 2023 Alfa Romeo Brennero.

At this point, the all-new crossover is in the advanced stage of development and from what we can see, it will share a lot of parts with other models from Stellantis, particularly models from Peugeot. This refers to things like platform, powertrain etc.

The brand-new 2023 Alfa Romeo Brennero should hit the market by the end of this year.

2023 Alfa Romeo Brennero Design

The 2023 Alfa Romeo Brennero will be a brand-new model and it will be a subcompact crossover. As we’ve just mentioned, it will share a lot of parts with models from the former PSA group, and this includes the platform as well. It will ride on the updated version of the e-CMP platform, which will be called the  e-CMP2. The thing about this platform is that it supports all kinds of powertrain options, including both electric and internal-combustion powertrains. Therefore, we expect to see the new Brennero available in both layouts.

Most of the parts will be shared with the Peugeot 2008. The mechanical aspect is expected to be pretty much the same, with the exception of suspension setup, where we expect to see some magic from Alfa Romeo engineers once again. Of course, we expect to see the implementation of Alfa Romeo’s design language, but on the other hand, dimensions shouldn’t be much different compared to Peugeot’s subcompact crossover.

Interior

At this point, it is still early to talk about interior details but we may presume that a lot of inspiration will be taken from the new Tonale. This particularly refers to the dashboard design, which should utilize similar shapes and materials, as well as tech features.

On the other hand, the tight connection with the Peugeot 2008 clearly indicates that we are about to see similar amount of passenger space. This five-door SUV should feature typical passenger space for the segment, which means that four adults should be able to accommodate comfortably.

2023 Alfa Romeo Brennero Powertrain

As we already mentioned, the e-CMP2 platform will allow the usage of both electric and internal-combustion engines, so the 2023 Alfa Romeo Brennero will be available in both variants. Base models are expected to use Peugeot’s new version of the 1.2-liter PureTech inline-three turbo engine, which should come in two output variants, with either 130 or 155 horsepower. Also, expect to see a newly-developed dual-clutch transmission. Diesel engines won’t be offered.

On the other hand, the all-electric version should feature the same setup as the all-electric 2008. This means that we may expect to see a setup that consists of a single 136-hp electric motor and a 50kWh battery pack. In the Peugeot’s small crossover, this battery ensures around 310 kilometres of range, so we may expect similar autonomy from Alfa Romeo’s model. Also, count on fast charging of up to 100kW.
