After the recent redesign, it’s quite easy to conclude that the 2022 Toyota Sienna will come without more important changes. Simply, the recent overhaul has brought improvements in all areas we expected and once again, the Sienna is among class leaders. Also, if we consider that the previous generation was in production for nearly a full decade, it’s obvious that the best the second production year could bring are novelties in terms of new standard features
All in all, you may count on a versatile minivan, which looks great and handles even better. It also features arguably the nicest cabin in the class, full of quality materials and with excellent rear seats. Furthermore, the list of safety features is traditionally super-long, while the new hybrid powertrain ensures exceptional fuel economy.
As there are no bigger changes to come for the next year, we presume that the launch date will be scheduled for a typical time of year. That should be sometime in the last quarter of 2021.
2022 Toyota Sienna Design
As we are talking about the second production year of the current generation, it’s obvious that there are no changes to come in terms of base design characteristics. The 2022 Toyota Sienna will carry on with a familiar layout, now based on a new TNGA platform, which has brought a lower center of gravity and much better driveability. Handling is very precise and responsive and at the same time, the level of comfort is amazing. The ride is smooth and composed and in this aspect, the new Sienna outmatches every minivan on the market.
When it comes to the styling, the new model looks surprisingly attractive for a minivan. You can clearly see a lot of bits from the brand’s latest design language and, obviously, the only changes we could see for the second production years are new color options.
Interior
This aspect won’t bring any changes either. The recent overhaul has brought a completely new cabin layout. It utilizes a lot of high-quality materials which, in a combination with attractive design solutions, make this interior look pretty luxurious. Once again, the Sienna feels more upscale compared to rivals like Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Pacifica.
The amount of passenger room is great in all three rows. this minivan accommodates adult passengers in all rows. Also, we really like the seats, which are the most comfortable in the class. On the other side, some may consider the cargo area a big drawback.
Behind the third row, you may count on about 33 cubic feet, which is good for the segment. Numbers are pretty great with the third row folded as well. The trouble starts with the second row, which doesn’t fold down and can’t be removed either. So, the total cargo volume goes around 101 cubic feet. That’s not terrible but more ambitious haulers would probably pick Kia Sedona or Honda Odyssey. The latter offers 158 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.
Features
We don’t expect bigger changes in this aspect either, as the current model is already equipped properly. It comes standard with tech goodies like a 9-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, seven USB ports, satellite radio, six speakers, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. The list of standard equipment also includes goodies like tri-zone automatic climate control, remote keyless entry, push-button start, power-sliding rear doors, a power liftgate, and rear sunshades.
Additionally, you can also get things like an 11.6-inch rear-seat entertainment display, navigation, HD Radio, eight- and 12-speaker stereos, an in-car intercom, wireless charging, quad-zone climate control, power moonroof etc.
The list of standard features includes goodies like a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, road sign detection, and automatic high-beam headlights.
2022 Toyota Sienna Engine
Under the hood, the new Sienna features a hybrid powertrain. Compared to the previous generation, which features a V6 engine, the new model is less powerful but also significantly more efficient. You may count on Toyota’s familiar hybrid system, based on a 2.5-liter engine, which puts out around 245 horsepower.
As we already mentioned, driving dynamics are far from spectacular. However, 36 mpg in a combined ride is a pretty good compensation for the lack of peppiness. No other minivan gets even close to these numbers. Even the Pacifica plug-in hybrid can barely get to 30 mpg in a combined drive.
2022 Toyota Sienna Release Date and Price
Since there are no bigger changes to come, the 2022 Toyota Sienna will probably hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year. The price should remain pretty much the same as for the current model, which starts at around 35.000 dollars.
