The iconic pickup truck has been holding its leading position on the international market pretty confidently and there is no doubt that the current state won’t change in the following years. The 2022 Toyota Hilux continues in the same way, featuring excellent off-road performance, strong working capabilities and traditionally uncomparable reliability. Furthermore, this pickup also offers a decent level of comfort, a well-designed cabin and a long list of standard and available equipment.
For the next year, the Japanese manufacturer has prepared just a couple of minor updates. There are few novelties regarding the standard and available equipment, while most of the things have remained the same. On the other hand, the overall layout remains the same and you may count on familiar design characteristics from the outgoing model.
2022 Toyota Hilux Design
When it comes to base design characteristics, the 2022 Toyota Hilux comes without any notable change. The overall layout is the same, just like the styling. The current generation has been around since 2015 but keep in mind that there have been two updates meanwhile. The last one was for the 2020 model year, when we saw a new styling, as well as a new suspension setup and several other mechanical tweaks.
For the next year, the biggest change we are about to see is a new radio antenna design. Other than that, we can hear rumors about new appearance packages and similar things. The officials are still quiet on this matter.
Interior
On the inside, the 2022 Toyota Hilux will also continue in a familiar way. The 2020 update has brought some slight revisions, such as a new instrument cluster and a few more tweaks and we don’t believe that bigger changes could occur before a complete redesign, which isn’t expected to happen in the next few years.
On the other hand, Toyota has made a few features available in lower grades, such as dual-zone climate control, surround-view camera etc. Other than that, things remain largely the same, which isn’t that bad at all. All models come standard with a nice 8-inch touchscreen, with Toyota’s latest version of the infotainment system, which includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay too.
2022 Toyota Hilux Engines
Once again, there are no changes to come. Last year, we saw an important update of the flagship 2.8-liter turbodiesel, which now features more power and torque. It is rated at 204 horsepower (150kW) and 370 pound-feet (500Nm) of torque, which made it more capable than ever.
Two more engine options are available. One of them is a smaller 2.4-liter turbodiesel, which puts out around 150 horsepower (110kW). You can also get a petrol version, with a 2.7-liter inline-four, which puts out 160 horsepower. All engines can be paired with either manual or automatic gearbox.
In some parts of the world, the Hilux can also be equipped with a large 4.0-liter V6 petrol engine
2022 Toyota Hilux Configurations
This pickup can be configured in so many different ways. Besides different powertrain and transmission options, you can also choose different body styles. In many markets, you can even get a chassis cab version. You can also get Extra Cab and Double Cab layouts. Also, all versions are available with either 2WD or 4WD layouts.
Finally, there is the Invincible, an off-road performance version of the pickup, which comes with all kinds of off-road upgrades. Some of the notable upgrades are standard 4WD, two-speed transfer case, locking differentials, selectable drive modes, skid plates, upgraded suspension, higher ground clearance, tow hooks and many more.
2022 Toyota Hilux Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2022 Toyota Hilux will hit the market by the end of the year. Base models go around 25.000 dollars in Australia. In Europe, the starting price goes around 22.000 Euros. Some of the key competitors are models like Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton etc.
