Last year, RAM introduced a high-performance version of this pickup, called TRX. Of course, the biggest upgrade was a Hellcat engine with more than 700 horsepower, but there are also upgrades in terms of chassis, suspension, brakes, aesthetics etc. Logically, we would expect no bigger changes for the second production year but the company doesn’t think that way. We are about to see a new special version, called Ignition Edition, which will come with lots of additional features.
Despite the new version, the overall layout will remain the same. This pickup is all about performance. It comes with a monstrous Hellcat engine, as well as with all kinds of off-road upgrades. There is a new suspension and many other goodies that enhance the overall performance. Of course, styling comes with upgrades that accentuate that performance character.
We expect that the 2022 RAM 1500 TRX will hit the market in the next few weeks.
2022 RAM 1500 TRX Design
Design-wise, the standard TRX comes without more important changes. The biggest upgrade over standard models is an off-road suspension, with 13 inches of travel. The list of off-road features also includes Bilstein remote-reservoir dampers, an electronic-locking rear differential, and gigantic 15.0-inch front brakes. Furthermore, you may count on 18-inch wheelс and 35-inch tires, which definitely have an impact on the model’s total 11.8 inches of ground clearance.
Of course, there is a lot of unique styling details as well, which accentuate the model’s off-road character. There is a unique grille design, as well as a lot of black plastic around the vehicle, typical for off-roaders. The TRX comes exclusively in a crew cab layout, with a short bed.
Interior
On the inside, the 2022 RAM 1500 TRX continues in the same way. We like the fact that this version features the same upscale design as other models, despite its rugged nature. Moreover, the list of standard equipment is also pretty generous. For example, it includes goodies like a 12.0-inch touchscreen, 10-speaker audio system etc.
You can also opt for upgrades like leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera system, wireless device charging, ventilated front seats, and heated and ventilated rear seats.
2022 RAM 1500 TRX Ignition Edition
New for the 2022 model year is Ignition Edition. This version comes with lots of upgrades compared to the standard version. For example, there are exterior upgrades like unique graphics, blacked wheels, slightly revised grille etc. Upgrades are even more notable on the inside, where you may count on goodies like orange and copper-colored accents, contrast stitching etc. Also, this version comes standard with ventilated front and rear seats, a leather-and-microsuede-wrapped steering wheel.
2022 RAM 1500 TRX Engine
When it comes to the powertrain, the 2022 RAM 1500 TRX will remain unchanged. You may count on the same, super-capable, supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engine, which features a max output of 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes in pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which works great. It sends power to all wheels, while you may also count on different traction modes, depending on the surface. One of the rare complaints goes to the fact that there is no RWD mode.
When it comes to performance, this pickup needs just 3.7 seconds to hit 60 mph and completes 1/4 mile in just 12.3 seconds, at the speed of 110 mph. Considering the engine power, as well as the truck’s weight, it’s no wonder that the average fuel economy goes just around 10 mpg in the city and 14 mpg on the highway. The max towing capacity goes around 8.100 pounds, while the max payload is rated at 1310 pounds.
Release Date and Price
We expect to see the 2022 RAM 1500 TRX on sale in the next few weeks, with a starting price of around 74.000 dollars. The new Ignition Edition will start at around $93.000.
