For the fifth year of production, Jeep has prepared another set of novelties for the current generation of the legendary Wrangler. We are talking about the four-door version of the SUV, which will come as the 2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. We are about to see a package in the offer, called Xtreme Recon Package and it will offer even more off-road upgrades. This package will be available in Rubicon models.
On the other side, the rest of the lineup is expected to remain the same. You may count on the same offer of engines and trim levels, which make the Wrangler one of the most customizable models on the market. Of course, the focus is on off-road performance, but there are also versions with enhanced comfort, loads of tech features etc.
We expect that the 2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited release date will be scheduled sometime in the fall.
2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Xtreme Recon Package
This is probably the biggest novelty for the next year. We are talking about an optional package, which brings a few more off-road features compared to the Rubicon. Mainly, these are the first aftermarket upgrades most buyers usually make. We are talking about things like a 1.5-inch suspension lift and a new set of 35-inch BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain tires mounted to 8.0 x 17-inch beadlock capable wheels. Next, there’s a 1.5-inch factory suspension lift.
Another thing that comes with this package is the shorter 4.56:1 crawl ratio. The 4.88:1 setup is also available.
2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Design
Other than the new Xtreme Recon Package, the new 2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will continue in the same way. We are about to see a familiar design, which was originally introduced four years ago. Of course, this particular model is a four-door version, which is spacious, capable and even comfortable, to some measure. The next year shouldn’t bring changes in terms of trim-level organization. Also, the engine lineup should remain the same.
Interior
Unlike previous generations of this SUV, the new Wrangler looks really nice from the inside. There is a nice combination of retro and modern design solutions, while the materials are actually pretty nice, even though they are mostly hard to touch. The overall build quality is really good, while the long list of available features makes everything look even more upscale.
As we are talking about a four-door version, it’s obvious that there is plenty of space. Both rows of seats accommodate adults with ease, while the boxy shape provides plenty of headroom. For the same reason, the cargo area is very generous with space. You may count on about 31.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 72.4 cubic feet in total. Those are pretty decent numbers.
Engines
AS we’ve just mentioned, the engine lineup will remain the same for the next year. Therefore, the offer will start with a good-old 3.6-liter V6, which puts out around 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. There is also a newer and more efficient 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.
Of course, there is also a familiar 3.0-liter turbo-diesel, which puts out around 260 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque.
The recent update has brought two more powertrain options. The first one is a plug-in hybrid version, which combines a turbo-four engine with two electric motors and puts out 375 horsepower. The other one is the well-known 6.4-liter HEMI V8, reserved for the Rubicon 392 model. This one puts out around 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.
Trim Levels
The trim level organization should remain the same for the next year. Therefore, base models will continue with the “Sport” badge and a pretty basic list of standard equipment that includes cloth upholstery, manual windows and door locks, push-button start, three 12-volt outlets, a rearview camera, a 5-inch touch screen, an eight-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, and a USB port.
The Sport S trim adds air conditioning, power windows and door locks, and remote keyless entry, and also comes with several optional packages in the offer.
Sahara is next in the line, with standard features like dual-zone automatic climate control, premium cloth upholstery, a 7-inch touch screen, satellite radio, additional USB ports, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The Rubicon adds off-road goodies like rock rails, locking front and rear differentials, a sway bar, and an upgraded transfer case and a 4WD system.
2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Release Date and Price
Despite the updates, we don’t believe that the 2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited could come much earlier than usual. Also, the starting price should remain pretty much the same, which would mean around 32.000 dollars for base versions. Of course, key competitors will remain the same. Those are the four-door version of Ford Bronco and Toyota 4Runner.
