The all-new 2022 Isuzu MU-X is coming next month, after so much waiting. The D-Max base SUV is finally getting a new layout, based on the next-generation design of the Japanese carmaker. Once again, most of the parts will be borrowed from the legendary pickup, especially in terms of mechanics. On the other side, the photos show a slightly different approach regarding the styling. You may count on a little bit more conventional layout, which should attract a wider range of potential buyers.
We expect that the new model will look more upscale than its predecessor. The new interior should look way nicer and should come with way more standard equipment. What’s also about to come is a new engine, also borrowed from the pickup sibling. Finally, we can hear reports about the price increase. Allegedly, the base 2022 Isuzu MU-X price will be $5.000 higher compared to the previous generation. The new model will debut in August.
2022 Isuzu MU-X Redesign
The upcoming 2022 Isuzu MU-X redesign will bring a lot of novelties. Once again, the popular D-Max pickup will serve as a basis and what’s important to know is that this means a completely new platform. Isuzu no more works with GM and the new D-Max is completely developed by Japanese engineers. The MU-X will go in the same way and from what we can see on the new truck, the ride quality is better, as well as the overall performance.
Of course, big changes will come in terms of the styling as well. We can already see a lot of rendering photos and all of them show a little bit more conventional approach compared to the D-Max. This refers to the front face, which has been toned down and also features a lot of chrome details. The rest of the body comes in a typical SUV manner, and you can see new taillights, new wheels and many more details.
Interior
The 2022 Isuzu MU-X interior also brings a completely new design. Of course, the basic dashboard design looks the same as in the D-Max, which isn’t a bad thing at all. Moreover, it looks like the SUV comes with a little bit finer materials and everything looks really nice. Many surfaces feature high-quality materials, while the overall shape is pretty attractive. Of course, the center stack is highlighted by a massive 9-inch touchscreen, which comes standard with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
We can also notice a little bit nicer seats, with more side support, nicer stitching and similar things. However, we presume that the company wanted to show a high-grade version. Base models will probably look a little bit more basic. What’s important to mention is that the 2022 Isuzu MU-X will keep the same level of functionality and that it will be able to accommodate up to seven passengers.
2022 Isuzu MU-X Engine
We don’t expect to see surprises under the hood of 2022 Isuzu MU-X. It will come with the same upgraded version of a 3.0-liter turbodiesel, which debuted in the new D-Max. This engine now features a max output of 140kW (190hp) and 450Nm of max torque. Also, we don’t expect that the Japanese manufacturer will offer a manual gearbox in this case. Instead, all models should come standard with a six-speed automatic transmission with a torque converter.
In some other parts of the world, we could also see a version with a smaller 1.9-liter turbodiesel. This engine features a max output of 110kW (150hp) and 350Nm.
Trim Levels
We already know how the trim level organization will look like, at least in Australia.
Base models will wear the LSM badge and they will come standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, all-terrain tires, a 7.0-inch touchscreen, manual air-con and a manual tailgate and cloth seats, and LED headlights.
The LSU trim will bring bigger 18-inch tires, with Highway Terrain tires, as well as keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, a powered tailgate and a lumbar-support function for the front seats.
Finally, the LST model will come with 20-inch alloys with Highway Terrain tires, leather upholstery, heated front seats etc.
Also, all models should come standard with a long list of safety features, which includes goodies like Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise, Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Emergency Lane Keeping, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.
2022 Isuzu MU-X Release Date and Price
The new 2022 Isuzu MU-X will arrive next month. When it comes to the price, base models will cost $48,990, while models with 4×4 will start at $54,990. The competition in the segment is pretty tough and includes models like Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport etc.
