2022 Honda Odyssey Review: Features, Specs, Pricing

The 2022 Honda Odyssey came surprisingly early and it is already available on sale. It comes without more significant updates and the only major change is that HondaVac isn’t on the offer anymore. The rest of the vehicle has remained pretty much the same, so you may count on the same design that was introduced three years ago.

This means you may count on a minivan that has so many good things to offer. It is fun to drive and offers surprisingly engaging handling. Furthermore, you may count on a spacious and well-designed cabin, which features great materials and high overall quality.

However, the Odyssey isn’t without flaws. The main complaint goes to the fact that you have to remove the second rows of seats to enjoy maximum cargo capacity. Also, smartphone integration isn’t available in base trim levels.

2022 Honda Odyssey Design

The current generation of this minivan has been around since 2018. Since then, we saw a couple of yearly updates, including the 2020 refresh, which has brought slight styling changes. This particularly refers to the front end, which utilizes new headlights, a new grille, new bumpers, which all make this minivan look more appealing. The 2022 Honda Odyssey will continue in the same way and we don’t expect to see more important updates. Still, we won’t exclude the possibility to see minor updates in terms of new color options and similar things.

Mechanically, this minivan relies on proven design solutions, sharing a lot of parts with models like Honda Pilot. Of course, it features a longer wheelbase, which goes over 118 inches. Still, that’s less compared to key rivals like Toyota Sienna and Chrysler Pacifica, which may be one of the reasons why the Odyssey offers superior maneuverability and handling.

Interior

Minivans are mostly about interior design and the Odyssey is no exception. You may count on one of the nicest cabins in the class. It offers plenty of style and excellent build quality. Materials are mostly soft to the touch in all trim levels. Base models come with cloth upholstery, as well as with things like an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. Higher trims include more power adjustments, heating and ventilating seats, leather upholstery etc.

Besides high overall quality, the cabin also offers plenty of space and a high level of practicality. Base seating configuration is for seven passengers, while eight-seater versions are available. When it comes to cargo volume, you may count on about 38.6 cubic feet of space behind the third row, up to 92.3 cubic feet behind the second row, and up to 158 cubic feet behind the front row. That’s pretty good for a minivan but the problem is that you have to remove second-row seats to use all these cubes.

Features

When it comes to standard equipment, all models come with automatic climate control, push-button start, a 5-inch infotainment display, two USB ports, Bluetooth, and a seven-speaker stereo. In higher trim levels, you can get goodies like an 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless device charging, navigation, additional USB ports, an 11-speaker stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, tri-zone automatic climate control, remote start, proximity keyless entry, and a moonroof.

In terms of safety features, all models come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, and the Honda Sensing suite, which bundles forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and road departure mitigation. This impressive list can also be expanded with several options, such as front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert are also available.

2022 Honda Odyssey Engine

Under the hood, the 2022 Honda Odyssey continues in the same way. It uses a well-known 3.5-liter V6, which puts out around 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. That’s more than enough to move this minivan with ease. Driving dynamics are very good, while the 10-speed automatic transmission does an excellent job. When it comes to fuel economy, you may count on about 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. That’s quite typical for the segment.

What’s more impressive about this minivan is handling. Of course, it’s comfortable like other models in the class but on the other side, it also offers precise steering and notably less body roll, which even makes it fun to drive. That’s something you wouldn’t normally expect from a vehicle of this type.
