After the last year’s full redesign, it is pretty much a certain thing that the 2022 GMC Yukon XL won’t feature any bigger change. We are about to see the same design, which came with tons of novelties recently. There is a completely new design, whether it’s about mechanics or aesthetics. Furthermore, the company also introduced a new diesel version, while the famous Denali trim is now even more exclusive. Given all the novelties, we are pretty sure that the best we could see for the second production year are minor updates in terms of new features and color options.
Other than that, things will remain the same. You may count on the same characteristics, which offer benefits in many fields. Of course, a huge cabin is a thing we like most, but this SUV also offers three engine options, a long list of standard equipment and a pretty comfortable ride. We expect to see it on the market by the end of this year.
2022 GMC Yukon XL Design
When it comes to the overall design, it’s important to mention that the last year’s redesign has brought a lot of novelties. There is a new platform, called T1, which brings improvements in ride quality. Among other novelties, the new generation features standard rear independent suspension. Styling-wise, the new model takes a lot of inspiration from the Sierra and looks very rugged and attractive. We don’t expect changes for the second production year.
This also means that the 2022 GMC Yukon XL will continue with a couple of exclusive versions. Of course, the first one that comes to mind is Denali, which comes with unique styling details, such as grille, wheels etc. Also, there is the new AT4 model, which brings a couple of notable off-road upgrades, such as a standard 4WD, a two-speed transfer case, skid plates, and hill descent control.
Interior
This will be the second production year of the generation, so there is no doubt that things will remain the same, mainly. The recent redesign has brought a completely new cabin layout, and we can notice finer materials, better build quality and, of course, more modern aesthetics. Another thing we should mention is that, for the first time, Denali features a completely unique dashboard design, with different shapes, an integrated infotainment screen and many other exclusive details.
This particular version is a stretched variant of the standard Yukon. With 134.1 inches in wheelbase, it is one of the biggest SUVs on the market, along with the closest sibling, Chevy Suburban. All three rows are very generous with space and eight adults can accommodate pretty comfortably. The cargo area is even more impressive, as you may count on about 41.5 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 93.8 cubes with the third row folded, and 144.7 cubic feet. Those are class-leading numbers.
Features
For the second production year, we don’t expect to see bigger changes in terms of standard equipment. Most of the things should remain the same as in the current model, which comes standard with tri-zone climate control, a 10.2-inch touch screen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, six speakers, satellite radio, HD Radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, six USB ports, and Bluetooth. Additionally, you can get things like a power-sliding center console, panoramic sunroof, navigation and a rear-seat entertainment system.
When it comes to safety, the current model comes standard with a rearview camera, a rear-seat reminder, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, front and rear parking sensors. Also, there are options like a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, a rear camera mirror, rear pedestrian alert etc. We presume most things will remain the same for the next year.
2022 GMC Yukon XL Engines
Under the hood, the 2022 GMC Yukon XL will continue with three familiar engine options in the offer. Base models will feature a familiar 5.3-liter V8, which puts out 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, which seems enough for most drivers. A bigger and more powerful 6.2-liter V8 is also on the offer, with a max output of 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Finally, there is the diesel version, equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, which delivers 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
All three engines come in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which does a pretty good job.
2022 GMC Yukon XL Release Date and Price
As there are no significant updates to come, we are pretty sure that the 2022 GMC Yukon XL will hit the market sometime late in the year. The base price should go around 54.000 dollars. Models like Ford Expedition Max and Toyota Sequoia are key competitors.
