2022 Ford Ranchero Rumors and Expectations

We can hear a lot of rumors these days in the automotive industry and among the most interesting ones are those regarding the comeback of the legendary Ford Ranchero. The iconic coupe ute was in production for a really long time and the last version ended its production in the late 70s. After that, these body styles faded out from the market, due to much more practical alternatives.  However, we are living in specific times, where everything is possible, including the comeback of the legendary nameplate. Allegedly, the new version could come already in the next year, as the 2022 Ford Ranchero.

If it arrives, the new Ranchero will probably come in a little bit different layout. Instead of a typical coupe ute design, the new model would come with a little bit more rugged appearance, as a pickup that rides on a unibody platform, which would compete with models like Hyundai Santa Cruz, Honda Ridgeline etc.

2022 Ford Ranchero Design

In terms of base design characteristics, the new model wouldn’t be a typical pickup. Instead, it would ride on a unibody platform. Most likely, it would have most things in common with models like Ford Focus, the famous compact that offers pretty impressive driving characteristics for its class. Of course, w would see few modifications, but the overall layout would be the same.

The 2022 Ford Ranchero would definitely benefit from Focus’ excellent chassis and suspension setup, which offers responsive steering and engaging handling. However, the Ranchero would probably feature a longer wheelbase, which would provide enough room for a spacious cabin and a decent cargo bed behind.

Exterior

Of course, this is one of the most interesting parts about the 2022 Ford Ranchero. We don’t expect that the new model would closely resemble the original. A single row cab in this segment doesn’t seem particularly practical in this segment, so the new iteration would rather come with a double cab layout instead.

When it comes to the styling, we don’t expect too many similarities with the Focus hatchback at the front. Although it would use the same mechanics, it would probably come with a more distinctive styling, which would accentuate its unique nature. We presume some styling solutions could be borrowed from the new Bronco Sport, especially at the front.

Interior

When it comes to the interior design, we already mentioned that the 2022 Ford Ranchero will most likely come in a double cab layout. This means two spacious rows of seats that can accommodate adults with ease. Behind, we count on a decently-sized cargo bed.

On the other side, the dashboard could easily feature the same or similar layout as the popular compact. This would definitely be a good thing, as we would get a cabin with an attractive design, nice materials and lots of tech features.

2022 Ford Ranchero Engines

We are pretty sure that the 2022 Ford Ranchero won’t be as muscular as previous generations. Instead, we would see small and efficient engine options, just like in the Focus. Most likely, base models would come with a 1.5-liter engine, which comes in two variants – with either 150 or 180 horsepower. We presume that the bigger 2.0-liter turbo-four would be offered as well, with a max output of around 250 horsepower.

Both engines would come in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission.

2022 Ford Ranchero Release Date and Price

At this point, the 2022 Ford Ranchero is just a rumor. However, the rumors say this model could arrive already in the next year. If it arrives, we presume that base versions would cost around 25.000 dollars. More details should come in the near future.
