2022 Dodge Durango Preview: Changes, Specs, Features

The current generation of this muscular crossover may be around for a full decade, but still has a lot of great things to offer. It is a great choice for all those who want to add a little bit of macho flavor to their ride. While it is as practical as most other mid-size SUVs on the market, it also offers far more powerful powertrain options. Along with bold and muscular styling, this is the thing that sets Durango apart from rivals. The 2022 Dodge Durango will continue in the same way and we don’t expect to see any bigger change.

The reason why we don’t expect to see bigger changes for the next year is quite simple. The recent refresh has brought a lot of new things, whether it’s about styling, interior design or engine lineup. Therefore, it’s pretty much certain that the current model will remain in production for a few more years before we see a complete redesign.

2022 Dodge Durango Design

The overall design of this crossover may feel a little bit rudimental by today’s standards, but it has its advantages too. It may be essentially a crossover, but the current Durango is a pretty tough vehicle, which is solid and capable. After all, the max towing capacity goes up to 8.700 pounds, which is higher compared to most body-on-frame SUVs on the market. For comparison, the new Suburban can tow up to 8.300 pounds.

Visually, the recent refresh has brought a lot of interesting novelties. Headlights have been revised, as well as bumpers, grille, rear spoiler etc. All these things may look subtle, but definitely make the vehicle look more appealing. Therefore, we are pretty sure that the 2022 Dodge Durango won’t feature any particular change. Still, we won’t exclude the possibility to see some minor updates, like new color options and similar things.

Interior

Just like the exterior, the inside of this SUV receive an update last year, so it’s hard to expect any more notable change for the next year. The recent update has brought a revised dashboard, which a new center stack that is more oriented to the driver now. Furthermore, we like the new buttons, infotainment screens etc. The overall impression is much better than before and it’s really hard to find any bigger complaint about the overall cabin layout, despite that there are many rivals that look fancier.

2022 Dodge Durango Interior

Besides good looks, the cabin is also spacious. The first two rows are really comfortable and accommodate adults with ease. The optional third row is typical for the segment, which would mean not particularly spacious and usable enough. When it comes to the cargo area, there are around 17 cubic feet behind the third row. You may count on 43.3 cubic feet when you fold down the third row, and there are 85.1 cubic feet of the total cargo volume. Those are quite typical numbers for the class.

2022 Dodge Durango Engines

This is where 2022 Dodge Durango is about to shine, as usual. The base model comes with a familiar 295-horsepower 3.6-liter V6, but the real deal starts with V8 engines. The first one in the row is a 5.7-liter HEMI unit, which is good for about 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. It offers solid performances and a genuine V8 and we consider the best in the range, as a daily option.

Those who look for something peppier can pick a 6.4-liter unit, which puts out pretty impressive 475 horsepower and delivers excellent performance. Of course, you can go even more extreme and get a Hellcat version, with a supercharged 6.2-liter unit, which is good for 710 horsepower. With this one, you can sprint from zero to sixty in just 3.5 seconds.

Features

We don’t expect to see many additions to the list of standard equipment either. Simply, the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect. It comes standard with goodies like a 7-inch instrument cluster display, an 8.4-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, keyless entry, satellite radio, voice recognition, Bluetooth, a six-speaker stereo, and four USB ports.

In higher trim levels, you can get things like a 10.1-inch touch screen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, HD Radio, navigation, Amazon Alexa, a nine-speaker Alpine premium stereo, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium stereo, a rear-seat entertainment system, wireless device charging, two additional USB ports, a sunroof, universal garage door opener, remote start etc.

On the other side, a rearview camera is currently the only standard feature. Things are much better in higher trim levels, where you can get goodies like adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and automatic high-beam headlights.
