2022 Chevy Colorado Preview: No Bigger Changes To Expect

Despite that the current generation has been in production for a full decade, the recent update clearly indicates it will remain active for a few more years. Therefore, we are pretty sure that the 2022 Chevy Colorado will carry on in the same way, without any notable changes. Of course, minor updates in terms of new standard equipment are always possible, but the overall layout will certainly remain untouched.

All this means that you may count on familiar characteristics. This truck still has a lot of good things to offer, despite the age. We particularly like its capabilities, whether it’s about engine power, towing capacity or something third. Also, it offers a surprisingly smooth ride for a truck like this, while the infotainment system is pretty easy to use. On the other side, an outdated interior is clearly a drawback, just like things like a tight cabin, lack of safety features etc.

Since there are no important changes to come, we expect to see the next year’s model sometime late in the year.

The current generation has been in production for a full decade, so it’s no wonder that some aspects of the truck seem outdated. However, this model still has a lot of things to offer, especially in terms of capability. Furthermore, the recent update has brought a new styling, which includes a nicer grille and bumper. All in all, it’s hard to expect any bigger novelty for the next year.

The same thing is expected with the 2022 Chevy Colorado ZR2. This off-road version has also received a big update last year, with even more styling changes that made it look even more attractive. Still, off-road hardware is far more important in this case. Some of the highlights are things like standard four-wheel drive, two-speed transfer case, full locking rear and front differentials, skid plates etc.

Interior

Not many things have changed since the initial launch on the inside, so we are pretty sure that the 2022 Chevy Colorado interior will remain the same. This means that you may count on a cabin that definitely shows signs of aging. The dashboard looks old, while most of the cabin is made from hard plastics.

Of course, you may count on two familiar cabin configurations. The Extended Cab comes coupled with a long bed and offers a second row of seats that isn’t particularly useful. Therefore, if you plan to use the second row more frequently, the Crew Cab version is the one you should pick. A good thing to know is that this cab style is available with both short and long bed.

Features

We could see a couple of additions to the list of standard equipment but most of the things will certainly remain the same as in the current model. The current model comes standard with things like a 7-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, two USB ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, and a six-speaker audio system. wireless device charging, an 8-inch touch screen, a seven-speaker Bose audio system, HD Radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, additional USB ports, navigation, automatic climate control, remote start etc.

One of the biggest drawbacks of this pickup is a pretty short list of standard safety features. Practically, a rearview camera is the only thing that comes standard. The list of options isn’t particularly long either. You can get options like cruise control, rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning.

2022 Chevy Colorado Engines

We have no doubt that the 2022 Chevy Colorado engine lineup will remain the same. Base models use a familiar 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which puts out around 200 horsepower. It’s not particularly capable but gets the job done. If you’re more ambitious, you should opt for the V6 version. This one uses a 3.6-liter engine, which puts out around 310 horsepower and 275 horsepower. It provides notably better acceleration, as well as higher max towing ratings.

Speaking of the max towing rating, a 2.8-liter turbodiesel is the best choice. This engine puts out around 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough for a max towing rating of 7.700 pounds, which is still the highest in the class.

When it comes to transmission, the base engine and turbodiesel come with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. On the other side, the V6 comes in a couple with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
