2021 Lexus Truck Concept: More Than Rumor?

Toyota is currently working on the next-generation Tundra and it won’t be a big surprise if we see its luxury iteration. According to rumors, Lexus may offer such a vehicle for the first time in its history. Reasons for that are numerous and the first thing that comes to mind is the growing popularity of the pickup truck segment. Therefore, it’s no wonder that we can find reports that suggest a concept version already in this year, which would come as the 2021 Lexus Truck Concept.

Of course, we won’t go too much into details, but some general stuff could be estimated, starting from platform, size etc. The powertrain is another thing that comes to mind and it’s quite certain that if this truck arrives, it would come in some form of electrification. Of course, we count on Lexus’s typically high level of luxury. The concept may have a premiere already in the second half of the year.

2021 Lexus Truck Concept Design

Of course, the thing that bothers most of us is how this concept would look like. One of the first things that come to mind is size. Naturally, we would expect a full-size iteration, as this is a far more popular segment than the segment of pickup trucks. Also, the truck would be all-new in that case, while the compact iteration would probably be Tacoma-based, which means a five-year-old base design.

So, it’s easy to conclude that Lexus would rather go full-size. This leads us to the next generation of Toyota Tundra, which is about to hit the market in the last quarter of the year. The new truck will bring loads of new technologies, so there is no doubt that many of them will find their way to the 2021 Lexus Truck Concept as well. This particularly refers to mechanics, which would be based on Toyota’s new, body-on-frame version of the TNGA platform.

Exterior

We can agree that the 2021 Lexus Truck Concept will most likely come as a full-size truck. Besides the size, another thing that comes to mind is the layout, where we have no doubt that that the crew cab style is the one to expect.

When it comes to aesthetics, we expect that this concept would probably feature a quite production-ready layout. The overall shape probably wouldn’t be much different compared to Tundra but on the other side, we would see the brand’s typical approach when it comes to the front face. There, we would expect to see the latest iteration of the well-known spindle grille layout, but be sure that there would be loads of unique styling details, just like we can see in the upcoming Lexus LQ crossover.

The thing with most concepts is that they usually feature pretty futuristic cabin design, which in most cases don’t have too many things in common with the production model that comes afterward. The 2021 Lexus Truck Concept should be no exception, so we count on a lot of futuristic details and a full pack of advanced tech features. The concept would come in a crew cab layout, which means two spacious rows of seats and, knowing Tundra’s cabin designs, there is no doubt it would be among the biggest in the class.

On the other side, the potential production version would rather feature a toned-down design, with more conventional design solutions. Lexus is famous for its relatively conservative approach, which comes in a combination of excellent build quality and precision. We see no reasons for this truck to be any different.

2021 Lexus Truck Concept Powertrain

In our opinion, if the 2021 Lexus Truck Concept comes soon enough, it would be a perfect opportunity for Toyota to present the new, so-much-awaited hybrid powertrain, which is expected to be offered in the new Tundra. This hybrid system should be based on a familiar 3.5-liter V6 engine, and the latest reports suggest a max output of around 450 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque.

Things may be more conventional as well. In that case, pure gasoline sounds just fine and the first engine that comes to mind is a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6, which puts out around 414 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque. A 5.0-liter V8 is also an option.
