2021 Chevy El Camino Concept: Comeback of the Legend

If we can trust the latest rumors, the iconic nameplate may come back, at least in the form of a concept. These days, we can find a lot of unofficial, rumor-based reports that suggest a comeback of the legendary coupe ute, which was in production for decades and which still has cult status among lovers of pickups and muscle cars. Although this may sound strange to you the El Camino was always somewhere between these two worlds, which are hard to imagine colliding. The last time we saw this model in production was in 1987. Since then, GM introduced a concept called Pontiac G8 ST, which features a pretty similar form but never entered serial production. Now, it’s time for the 2021 Chevy El Camino Concept, rumors say.

At this point, it’s hard to tell how possible this sounds but where is smoke, there’s a fire as well, old guys would say. The company is still quiet about this, so we can only speculate about the design and features of this concept. While some of the basic things are quite easy to predict, there also plenty of room for surprises. This especially refers to aesthetics and design details in general. The 2021 Chevy El Camino Concept could have a premiere already in the second half of this year.

When it comes to base design characteristics, we presume that the overall layout of the 2021 Chevy El Camino Concept would have a lot of things in common with the previous generations. Of course, this particularly refers to the body style, as we are talking about one of the most legendary coupe ute models of all time, the segment that vanished from the market decades ago. This comeback would include the same body style, but designed in a completely new manner.

One of the things that come to mind is the platform. In the past, the El Camino was always tightly related to Chevelle. Considering that the iconic muscle car is not in production anymore, we should look at another iconic muscle car, Camaro. This means the new 2021 Chevy El Camino Concept would ride on a familiar GM Alpha platform. Still, we presume that the wheelbase would be slightly longer in this case. In the past, the El Camino was usually good for about 115-119 inches, while the current-generation Camaro features 110.7 inches between the axles.

Styling

Since are talking about a concept, the styling would probably include several exclusive details, which don’t have too many things in common with the common practice in Chevy’s production models. Still, we presume that the overall design approach would be typical for this model. We count on a typical coupe ute layout, with a single cab design.

When it comes to the front end, there is no doubt that we will see a lot of elements from the brand’s contemporary design language. We presume that the front face would probably have a lot of things in common with Camaro. Others suggest that the 2021 Chevy El Camino Concept could find inspiration in the current-generation Silverado, which features a quite bold design.

Interior

Once again, we are talking about a possible concept. So, we would expect to see a lot of design solutions that don’t have many things in common with production models. Still, some basic layout could easily borrow design elements from Camaro, when it comes to the dashboard. When it comes to seating configuration, coupe utes feature just a single row of seats, with capacity for two. The 2021 Chevy El Camino Concept wouldn’t be any different.

2021 Chevy El Camino Concept Engine

Since we are talking about a model that would share design characteristics with Chevy Camaro, the concept version would probably borrow one of the engines that powers the iconic pony car. We presume that would probably be the most powerful engine in the offer. That would be a supercharged version of the well-known 6.2-liter V8 unit, which puts out around 650 horsepower.

If this model enters serial production one day, we presume it would come with other engines in the offer as well. This includes a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 275 horses. A well-known 3.6-liter V6 should be in the offer too. It has a max output of 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque.

Finally, there is a naturally-aspirated version of the well-known 6.2-liter V8. This one puts out 455 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque. All engines would be available with both manual and automatic transmission. Of course, base versions would feature rear-wheel drive, while AWD layout could be offered too.
